Paradiso Della Guida - The Driving Paradise Tour

ree

After nearly a year of planning, our long-awaited European driving tour, Paradiso Della Guida, became a reality. Seven days. Four countries. Countless breathtaking roads. And a convoy of passionate car lovers chasing unforgettable experiences across mountains, lakes, and iconic cities. Here's how it all unfolded…

Day 1: Dorset to Troyes – The Journey Begins

Our journey began bright and early as we left Dorset, heading for the Eurotunnel. With large spaces pre-booked for the whole convoy, the crossing was smooth and stress-free. Once across into France, we cruised through beautiful rural scenery en route to the charming town of Troyes.

That evening, we checked into a centrally located hotel surrounded by cobbled streets and historic architecture. A warm summer night set the scene for a beautiful three-course dinner outdoors, soaking in the atmosphere of this quaint French gem. Laughter, great food, and the low rumble of engines—it was the perfect start.

Day 2: Troyes to Lake Zurich – Open Roads and Michelin Stars

Day two delivered a driving experience that set the tone for the rest of the week: fast, flowing roads through the French countryside, including stretches from the Tour de France. Our cars devoured the miles as we made our way toward Switzerland.

That night we arrived at a stunning modern hotel perched on Lake Zurich, where every room enjoyed sweeping views of the water. The culinary highlight of the day was a Michelin-starred dinner at the hotel restaurant, featuring a beef dish that many of us are still dreaming about.

Day 3: Zurich – Stelvio – Lake Como: The Crown Jewel of Driving Days

The phrase “best day of driving in your life” was thrown around more than once on day three—and for good reason. We tackled three alpine passes, including the legendary Stelvio Pass. Though visually dramatic, Stelvio didn’t quite live up to its reputation from a pure driving perspective.

Thanks to extensive route planning, we uncovered hidden gems of mountain roads—smoother, quieter, and far more rewarding to drive. A scenic lunch atop Stelvio with panoramic views provided a perfect break. There was a brief moment of suspense when Jack, our lead car, was stopped by Swiss Police—but it turned out to be a routine check.

As the sun began to set, we rolled into Lake Como, where our group took over a charming hotel right on the water. The atmosphere was electric. Italian hospitality welcomed us with family-style pizzas, tiramisu, and excellent cocktails. A magical night.

Day 4: Free Day in Paradise

Day four offered a rare luxury—freedom. There was no plan, only possibilities.

Jack and Zita explored the vibrant city of Milan, others hired boats to cruise across Lake Como, visiting movie locations and hidden coves. Some opted for pure relaxation, soaking up the sun in 34°C heat with a drink in hand. Whether chasing culture, cinematic sights, or just a sun tan, the day was unforgettable.

Day 5: Lake Como to Lake Zurich – More Passes, More Smiles

Another incredible day behind the wheel. We navigated three more alpine passes, mixing high-altitude technical driving with wide open bends that begged for throttle. It was the kind of day that reminded us why we came—pure driving bliss.

Returning to our familiar hotel at Lake Zurich, we were greeted like old friends. The views, the food, the company—it all felt like home.

Day 6: Zurich to Reims – Mike’s Highway and a Night to Remember

Day six brought a fresh route back into France through vast countryside and long, empty stretches of tarmac. One such stretch—a pristine 48km road with zero traffic and stunning visibility—was nicknamed “Mike’s Highway”. It shaved a chunk off our travel time and delivered serious driving satisfaction.

Arriving in Reims for our final night, spirits were high. During dinner, one of the group made a heartfelt toast, praising the week and how seamlessly everything had come together. Jack followed with a speech of his own, thanking everyone for being part of the dream he’d spent nearly a year planning.

To wrap up the evening, we handed out fun driver awards, raised a glass to Paradiso Della Guida, and finished the night with cocktails and a few games of pool in the hotel lobby. It was the perfect celebration.

Day 7: Homeward Bound

With memories packed as tightly as our luggage, we hit the road one last time, heading for the Eurotunnel and back to Dorset. First we called into the Famous old F1 Circuit outside of Reims for some amazing nostaliga and photo opportunities Tired but smiling, it was clear that Paradiso Della Guida wasn’t just a trip—it was a journey of a lifetime.

Until Next Time...

From alpine hairpins to lakeside cocktails, from fast open roads to laughter-filled dinners, Paradiso Della Guida was a perfect fusion of cars, culture, and connection. To everyone who joined, thank you. Here's to the next adventure—see you on the road.
